What Dead Things Or Dead Places Are You Holding On To?

What dead things or dead places are you holding onto?

Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it on my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13-14
See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not receive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. Isaiah 43:19
As the season changes from Summer to Fall and we watch the leaves fall from the trees, let us be reminded that sometimes dead places and dead things need to fall away in our lives. Can we let go of the dead things in our lives and look ahead? This will make room for the Lord to do something new in us.  Each spring, we look at the new season with excitement. The temperatures are getting warmer, the sun seems to be shining brighter, flowers are blooming and we tend to have a more positive outlook. We have excitement for the new life blooming in nature all around us. Why can’t we look at Fall in the same way?  Spring (new growth) can’t happen unless we have Fall (letting go of the dead things).
Just like the trees let go of the dead leaves, we need to let go of the dead things in our lives.  The dead things in our lives need to fall away.  What dead things are you holding onto?   I know letting go can be uncomfortable and we may not enjoy it, but when it’s over we are much better than we were before.  God wants us at our best spiritually, emotionally and physically.  But we may be unaware of the dead things in our lives.  This is when and why we need to seek the Lord so we know what needs to fall away in our lives. Or could it be possible that we don’t want to let go of the dead things in our lives because they are familiar and comfortable?  Could we be so fearful of the unknown that we hold onto these dead things just because they have been with us for so long?

What dead things are you holding onto?

    • a bad relationship
    • old hurts from your past
    • negative thinking
    • old habits
The weight of these “dead leaves” are unhealthy and could be causing you to struggle. God doesn’t want you to struggle.  He wants you to live a life of freedom. As we allow Him to speak into our lives and walk in obedience, we can let go of the dead things and allow God to do something new in us.
Friends, can I challenge you to seek the Lord and allow Him to show you the dead things you are holding on to? Let’s be brave and let go of the grip we have and allow God to work in us.  When we let go of the dead things in our lives, it opens up space for the Lord to do something new in us.  Could it be that you need to let go of a bad relationship to open up the space to build relationships that feed your soul and point you to the Lord?  What if you let the Lord heal those deep hurts that you have been holding on to for years so you can share how the Lord healed your hurt and pain and draw people closer to the Lord?  Could your negative thinking be preventing you from seeing how blessed you are and changing that attitude would allow you to give and serve others?  Could replacing an old habit with a new habit take you on a  journey to a healthier, happier you?

I don’t know about you, but I am in constant need of my kind and loving Father in heaven to work in me, teach me and love me. Let’s commit to letting go of the dead things in our lives so God can do a new thing.
