Have you tasted the Lord’s goodness?

Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him. Psalm 34:8

Have you tasted the Lord’s goodness?

In life there are some things that you really can not understand until you experience them.  For example I could tell you about a piece of five layer chocolate cake that is so delicious and the icing is a spoonful of creamy chocolatey goodness, but you would never know how it actually taste until you try it for yourself.  Or I could tell you how amazing a specific book is, how the words jump off the page and create a brilliant image in my mind, but you would only know if you read the book for yourself.  I could even tell you how exhilarating and fun riding the largest roller coast at an amusement park is, the thrill you feel with every hill the coaster climbs and then falls down the other side.  You would only know if you ride the roller coaster for yourself.

Knowing the Lord is the same way.  I can tell you how the Lord met me when I felt unlovable and unworthy. I can tell you how he pulled me into His embrace and whispered the sweet truth of how much he loves me.  I can tell you how he took my scars and pain from my past and taught me how to process them and how he healed my brokenness. I can tell you how he answered prays that I prayer for years and was ready to give up Hope at just the moment he came through.  I can tell you how he showed me what my true identity is, that it is NOT in what I have done, but it is found in who HE is!  I can tell you how he has restored broken relationships in my life. I can tell you how he revealed His calling on my life to me when I was 40 years old!  And I can tell you how he taught me and prepared me and put the right people in my path so I can do what he has called me to.

In Psalm 34, David invites us all to “taste and see that the Lord is good.”  David himself experienced it.  He was trapped in enemy territory but David cried out to God for help and God came through.  When it seemed impossible for things to turn out well The Lord rescued and delivered David. And he wants to do that for you!  This Psalm is an invitation to trust in the Lord, take God at his word and experience his goodness firsthand.  When we know him personally that is when we realize that He loves us more than we can ever imagine and he cares about all the details of our lives. The good, the bad and the ugly!

Have you surrendered every area of your life to the Lord?  What is holding you back?  Can I challenge you to release control and “taste” how good the Lord is.  He will meet you right in the middle of what ever situation you are in.  Whether it be a physically issue, a spiritually battle or emotional distress the Lord is waiting for you to invite Him in to heal and restore all the broken places in your life.  Once we invite him in and take refuge in his presence that is when we will get to experience how good He is!!!!
