Spring

for behold, the winter is past; the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land.  Song of Solomon 2:11-13

Winter… Gray skies, cold air, wind, and short days depress me. I have to be intentional about staying positive and upbeat and keep my grumbling and complaining in check.  However I do love a good snow storm, it just looks beautiful outside and hearing the kids laughter while sledding or building a snowman is a sweet blessing but I eagerly anticipate spring every year.  This year in particular we have had more snow than in recent years and my heart is craving all that spring brings.

With Spring comes sunshine peeking through the clouds and the warm breeze on my skin.  It just seems to change my mood. It seems like when spring enters their is a lightness and a new sense of hope in the air. I am not a morning person but when spring comes I love the early morning, sitting in the sunlight with a cup of coffee and my Bible! I love to see the flowers blooming and listening to the birds sing.  With every flower that blooms its a reminder that new life is happening all around us. And I can’t help but smile.  During the winter we tend to hide indoors but with the arrival of spring we love to go outside and enjoy nature.   As spring arrives the first flowers will bud and bloom.  Just as nature is blossoming, God is working and his work is budding in your life.  Spring reminds us that change can be beautiful.  Change is not always easy and often times is uncomfortable but in that something beautiful can flourish.

In the winter the soil is hard and frozen which we can compare to the trails of life, the hard circumstances or the difficult situations we may have to go through.  Likewise, Spring is a tangible way for us to see how our lives are changed by God’s grace.  All around us, the dead is coming back to life and growing.  At one point in our life we were dead in our sin but because of the new life that Christ brings to us through His death and resurrection we get to experience being new in Christ.  If we keep our eyes fixed on the Lord when we walk through a trial it will produce something new in us.

How can I have a springlike perspective everyday?

  • Praise God everyday with new songs that tell of his Love and salvation.
  • Remind yourself of your new life in Christ.  We don’t want to focus on our past but it is good to remember so we can always celebrate what the Lord has done in our lives.
  • Be intentional with allowing the Lord to constantly renew your mind.
  • Allow the Lord to shine through you! Share the good news by sharing your God story or serving your community.
  • Seek God through his Word and allow him to teach and mold you into who he created you to be.
Winter time is drawing to a close for now, It will return all too soon. But we can choose to celebrate new life everyday of the year.  Maybe you feel stuck in winter with the hard and frozen soil, my prayer is that you allow the Lord to soften your heart and be open to hear and receive what ever the Lord wants to speak to your through His Word.  And I pray that as we see all the new life blossoming in nature we are intentional about seeing all the “New” things God is doing is us.

Love & Blessings, Cheryl
